This is a question we are asked a lot at the Party Tent Company and it’s a very good one if you want to make sure your marquee doesn’t leave your guests feeling to crammed in.

While a marquee may be a temporary venue, much of the planning when it comes to accommodating guests will be the same.  Then there is the type of event you are putting on to consider. Will it have a buffet, a dance floor and (or) a bar and so on? Inevitably there will be seating and tables to also factor in to your calculation. All of these extras will add to the space your require to accommodate 50 guests in a marquee.

That said it is actually straightforward to calculate the space you need as soon as you know everything that will be in the marquee. You simply deduct the space taken up by the buffet and so on and then work out how much space each individual will occupy within the marquee.

You will want to make sure there is enough room for your guest to comfortably stand in and have room to move around. The recommended space for each person is about 0.5 square metre. So the marquee would need to be at least 4m x 10m to accommodate 50 people even without any extras such as the bar, buffet or dance floor.

If you require these extras then always opt for a larger marquee than the minimum size you need to accommodate your guests. Fortunately our installers can provide advice on the size of marquee you will need by conducting a free site visit.
